After completing his MTS training, Roelof started working at Materiaal Metingen Europe BV in 1989, a company specialising in the inspection of sea-going and inland vessels. For this employer, he travelled the world for nine years, primarily conducting visual inspections, ultrasonic wall thickness measurements, anode and coating inspections, and calculations for steel repairs.

In 1997, Roelof joined D. Touw Expertise- en Ingenieursbureau B.V. in Rotterdam, and in 2003, he followed his colleague Cees Touw to the company Cees founded, Marintec Expertise B.V. Over the years, the scope and diversity of the work have expanded and increased. In addition to direct damage handling, Roelof also advises on cost recovery and the preparation of repair specifications.

Since 2009 Roelof is a registered member of NIVRE (Dutch Association of Registered Surveyors), in the branch Shipping industry and technology.
